Matthew Holzner
Matthew Holzner serves as Lecturer in Music and Assistant Director of Bands at Texas State University. His responsibilities include conducting the Concert Band, assisting with the Bobcat Marching Band and Basketball Band, teaching instrumental conducting, and supervising student teachers. He holds a Master of Music degree in Conducting from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has studied tuba performance with Mark Moore and Daniel Perantoni.
Prior to his appointment at Texas State, Holzner served as the Director of Bands at Mendota Township High School in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Under his direction, ensembles at Mendota received numerous Superior ratings at the IHSA State and Solo/Ensemble contests. In 2014, the MHS Percussion Ensemble was chosen to perform at the Annual Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) State Music Education Conference.
Holzner has served as a contributing author to the GIA Teaching Music Through Performance in Band series and assisted in the filming of GIA series The Marching Band Director's Video Toolbox. Holzner served on several committees for ILMEA, and regularly served as adjudicator for IHSA and IMEA festivals and auditions. His professional memberships include the College Band Directors National Association, the National Band Association, the National Association for Music Education, and the Texas Music Educators Association.
