Michelle Quintero
Michelle Quintero teaches mariachi voice for the Latin Music Studies area at Texas State University. A native of San Antonio, TX, Quintero brings over 25 years of experience to the program.
She received her bachelor’s degrees in vocal performance and music education from The University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX, followed by a MM in Music Education at Texas State University- San Marcos. She is a fourth generation Mariachi musician and the granddaughter of Mariachi pioneer, Pedro R. Moreno.
Michelle Quintero joined the Latin Music Studies family in Fall 2010, and in her first semester of teaching, had three of her students place in the top three of the University Category in the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza vocal competition.
Ms. Quintero also maintains a private Mariachi voice studio where she teaches a wide range of students. Many of her students have won and placed at the annual Mariachi Vargas Extraganza competition in San Antonio, as well as many "Best of Show" awards in other Mariachi venues. As a vocal coach, she has worked with many recording artists who have received Grammy nominations.
She is a former member of Mariachi Campanas de America and has performed and attended several conferences as part of the well-known mariachi group. She is a highly sought after clinician and adjudicator for many Mariachi vocal workshops at various conferences and universities throughout the United States.
Along with her active private voice studio, clinician and adjudicating schedule, Ms. Quintero serves as Music Specialist for Harmony Hills Elementary in the North East Independent School District in San Antonio, TX.
