Sam Rives

Sam Protich Rives is a musician, composer, and songwriter based in Lockhart, Texas.  Born and raised in Newport News, Virginia, he holds a BA in Music and English from the University of Mary Washington and an MM in Composition from Texas State University. His scholarly and creative work is centered on a lifelong study of the Black-led musics of the United States. He has composed a cantata, a mass, and numerous short chamber and choral works that blend European and African American musical traditions.
