Kelsey Sexton

An active teacher and performer in the Austin and San Antonio communities, Kelsey Sexton works with string students of all ages and is widely sought as an adjudicator, sectional coach, and guest lecturer. As an academic, she recently assisted with presentations at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention and the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Portland, Oregon. She has also traveled internationally as a chamber musician and guest artist at various conferences including the 2015 Music Learning Revolution in London and the 2016 International Society for Music Education in Glasgow. As an artist, Kelsey has performed frequently with the Mid-Texas Symphony, the Central Texas Philharmonic and the San Antonio Philharmonic.

Kelsey has served as a string clinician for many youth-centered music programs including the Arts Plus Suzuki Workshop, the Oxfordshire County Music Service, and several El Sistema programs in the U.S. and Europe. From 2017 to 2020, Kelsey directed the Farragut Intermediate School Orchestra Initiative, an after-school strings program dedicated to the growth and support of string education in Knoxville public schools. During this time, she received extensive Suzuki training and worked closely with the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra Association as a rehearsal assistant, guest conductor, sectional coach, and chamber coach. Most recently, Kelsey served on faculty at the 2023 Texas State University String Camp, the 2024 Knoxville Youth Orchestra Association Summer Music Camp, and the 2024 Cannon Music Camp at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.

Kelsey Sexton completed her undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and holds a Master of Music in Music Education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, as well as a Master of Music in Cello Performance from Texas State University. Currently, Kelsey serves as the Adjunct Professor of Cello at Concordia University Texas and teaches string education courses at Texas State University.
