NEW! TXST Camerata Orchestra
-
Do I need to audition to join TXST Camerata?
No! There are no auditions required to join the Camerata. We believe in providing an inclusive and supportive environment for all ranges of skill levels to learn and grow together.
-
How do I register for TXST Camerata?
The course is listed as a MUSE 3126-032 which is a chamber music credit.
The CRN for the course is 20977.
Share this with your advisor when you are registering for classes so you are enrolled in the correct course.
-
Do you only accept people performing with a violin, viola, cello, or bass?
Yes. The TXST Camerata is a string orchestra focused on repertoire for orchestral string instruments. The TXST School of Music has many opportunities for students interested in music for other instruments and voices, and you are encouraged to explore all that is offered!
-
Do I need to own my own instrument?
Yes, the TXST School of Music does not have the inventory or storage capacity to rent or lend instruments to students. Members of the TXST Camerata will need to own or rent the instruments they will use in rehearsals and performances.
-
I have a class conflict with one of the rehearsals, can I still join Camerata?
Unfortunately, no. TXST Camerata meets Monday and Wednesday from 3:30-4:50 in Music Building 222.
Additionally, Camerata is a course, not a club and attendance at all rehearsals and concerts is for course credit and required. As this is the only time that Camerata will be meeting to rehearse, you are encouraged to work with your advisor to find a way to fit it into your schedule. -
What type of music does the Camerata Orchestra perform each semester?
Our repertoire includes a variety of musical genres and styles, ranging from classical to contemporary pieces. We aim to offer a diverse selection of fun, engaging, and artistically satisfying music that appeals to all students.
-
Are there any fees associated with joining the Camerata Orchestra?
Beyond the standard tuition and fees charged by the university for any course, there are no additional membership fees required to participate in the Camerata Orchestra.
-
Is there a place to store my instrument in the music building?
For violins and violas, there are many lockers available where you can store your instrument in the music building rather than carrying it around campus. Locker space for Cellos and Basses is more limited and music majors have 1st priority, but any available lockers can be reserved through the main office in the School of Music.
-
Can Non-Texas State University students join the Camerata Orchestra?
Not yet at this time. Only currently enrolled TXST students can participate.
-
