Jean Park
Pianist Jean (Huang) Park is an active performer, teacher, and collaborator. She has performed in many cities in the United States as well as abroad in Germany, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Austria and the Czech Republic.
Jean Park has competed in the Schubert Club's Scholarship Competition while it was a national competition twice, winning second place in the college division in 2009, and returning in 2013 to win first place in the graduate division. She also received second place in the Bauru-Atlanta Piano Competition. Additionally, Jean Park has been the recipient of many scholarship awards to music festivals. She has participated in several music festivals such as Icicle Creek Winter Piano Festival, Texas State International Piano Festival, Playing for the Gold 2015 as part of the international chamber festival, Aurora Chamber Music and Masterclasses, Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival, International Piano Masterclasses, Round Top Music Festival, International Keyboard Institute and Festival, Hot Springs Music Festival, CCM Prague, Vienna Piano Festival and National Music Festival. Some highlights include, while at the Hot Springs Music Festival, Jean performed the piece Rhayader for piano and chamber orchestra in concert, with composer Eric Funk in attendance. At the Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival, Jean played a live solo performance that was broadcast on air on the WSMR radio station and also in the ambassador concert series. She has performed in masterclasses for Nikolai Demidenko, Julian Martin, Rebecca Penneys, Enrico Elisi, Christopher Harding, Sean Duggan, Emanuel Krasovsky, Victor Rosenbaum, Boris Slutsky, Adam Wibrowski, Eugene Pridonoff, Andrzej Jasinski, Wojciech Switala, Ewa Poblocka and Asaf Zohar. She has also played with her chamber groups in masterclasses for Robert Mann and Colin Carr. Some teachers Jean Park has studied with include Jason Kwak, Eteri Andjaparidze, Regina Yeh, Daniel Epstein, Andre Michel Schub, Bela Siki and Mary Toy.
Active in her field as a piano teacher, Jean is a member of the Music Teachers National Association (and San Antonio Music Teachers Association and Texas MTA). She is currently on the board of SAMTA and also serving as their recording and corresponding secretary. She was previously a member and board member of the Piano Teachers Congress of New York when she lived in New York. In 2008, she received the Music Teacher's National Association's STAR Award, an award for excellence in academic achievement, successful teaching experience and demonstrated leadership abilities. Jean also previously chaired the Piano Teacher's Congress Honors Program, a competition with a Carnegie Weill Recital Hall performance and cash prizes in 2014 and 2015. Several of Jean’s students have received awards in competitions and praise in adjudications.
Jean Park is currently serves as piano faculty at San Antonio College and University of Incarnate Word. Dr. Park has her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Stony Brook University in piano performance, where she studied with renowned pianist and teacher Gilbert Kalish. She attended Stony Brook with scholarship and teaching assistantship. She holds a Master of Music degree in piano performance from Manhattan School of Music. Jean holds two bachelor degrees from the University of Washington, one in music and the other in business.
