Opera Theatre at Texas State University-San Marcos will host a production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s Christmas-themed Amahl and the Night Visitors Dec. 16, 19-20.
Amahl and the Night Visitors is a joint production in cooperation with the San Marcos Performing Arts Association, the Smart Orchestra and members of the Central Texas community.
Performances will be held 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16 at Bethany Lutheran Church on Slaughter Lane in Austin followed by two shows at the Texas Music Theatre in San Marcos: 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19 and 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20.
Originally written for television, this one-of-a-kind, family-oriented performance is the story of a crippled boy and his single mother, who receive a visit from the Three Kings on their way to see the Christ child. Full of humor, a touching story and beautiful, soaring melodies, the production features international opera stars, up-and-coming young singer actors and members of the award winning San Marcos High School Choir.
