The School of Music at Texas State University-San Marcos will present two one-act operas during this season's opera dinner theatre event Oct. 15-16 and 22-23.
The comedy A Game of Chance and the mysterious Face on the Barroom Floor will be the featured performances at the Wine Cellar at 202 LBJ Drive in San Marcos. Dinner will be at 6 p.m. with the performance beginning at 7:30. Cost is $40 for the three-course dinner and show, while admission to the show only is $10.
"The two operas I've chosen for this production are wonderfully tuneful, the music is in the folk/musical theater style," said Samuel Mungo, director of opera studies at Texas State. "The stories are 30-35 minutes in length. The shows are perfect for couples, families and folks of all ages!"
The comedy A Game of Chance--which usually follows three knitting spinsters--has been updated to follow three college aged waitresses who feel stuck in their dead end jobs and yearn for a better life. But they better be careful of what they wish for--they just may get it!
The second opera, Face on the Barroom Floor, concerns a mysterious painting on the floor of a bar. How did it get there, and what is the dangerous story of its painter-- and the alluring subject?
