Texas State University's Opera Theater's newest production will hit the stage this weekend. Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" tells the story of Susanna and her love, Figaro, as they try to navigate toward their wedding day, despite unpaid debts and unwanted advances.

A scene from the opera Figaro.

Susanna (Mackenzie Bitz), the Countess' maid and Figaro's betrothed, laughs as Page Cherubino (Bailey Galindo) sings of his love of women, especially the Countess Almaviva.

The show premieres tonight at 7:30, with two more 7:30 p.m. showings on Friday and Saturday. The two-act play will have its final showing on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $15, or a discounted $8 for students, seniors and military— with an additional $2 processing fee for tickets bought online or at the window.

The comic opera, which originally debuted in Vienna in 1786, features some of the most well-known opera melodies. In a statement from the university, the show is described as being "considered by many to be the most perfect opera ever written," adding that it tells "the story of one madcap day; a day where people’s follies are exposed for all to see and laugh at, concluding with one of opera’s greatest scenes of forgiveness and reconciliation."
